I have a bad habit of munching and crunching on snack foods while drafting my next book. I'm responsible for the crumbs in the keyboard and the greasy fingerprints on the mouse. It can be dangerous when there's a whole sleeve of Thin Mints next to me and I'm struggling to find the right phrasing or the perfect rhyme for 'masquerade.' If you're looking for your next binge - read on for my review of Reese's Dipped Animal Crackers.

While shopping at Costco, I came upon a new snack that appealed to the devilish junk food- eater inside of me. Reese’s Dipped Animal Crackers. I’m all about the combination of peanut butter and chocolate. But what if you put your animal cracker in my Reese’s cup?

Appearance: One side of the cookie has a Reese’s peanut butter-chocolate coating. It’s tough to identify which animal is which - most of them look like blobs, so no telling if I was eating an elephant or a lion. They are the size of a standard animal cracker with a thin coating of the Reese’s. Cookies are clean to the touch, not melting easily or sticking together inside the bag.

Taste: The powerful taste of chocolate/peanut butter came through upon first bite with a satisfying crunch of the cookie. I found the flavor of the Reese’s overpowers the flavor of the animal cracker. The cookie provides additional sweetness and adds the texture and munchability common to bagged snack foods. The flavor of the Reese’s was mostly authentic, the animal cracker’s flavor was hard to discern.

Conclusion: These did not turn out to be the bingeable snack that I was hoping for. The sweet over sweet made me stop at two cookies. (And since that’s about 75 calories, it’s a good thing.) As a novelty, Reese’s Dipped Animal Crackers are fun to try, but they register way too high on the sweetness scale. Perhaps serving these alongside a bowl of pretzels or chips would provide the balance of sweet with salty that I find so appealing.
